On August 12th, 2009, eighteen brave (and chubby) individuals gathered at Gangplank in Chandler, Arizona to begin an epic weight-loss challenge.
They each put in $100, and after eight weeks, the winner takes all.
This is their story.
Jason Speck over at Competitive Fitness has really stepped up to the plate here for the Fatoff folks. Today Shaun Jacob and Chris Conrey went over to the Competitive Fitness gym down the street from Gangplank to meet with Jason and find out about a potential sponsorship/partnership.

Jason gave us a tour of the facilities and a brief insight into his philosophy. “We don’t train to be a runner or a weight lifter, we train you not to suck at life” says Jason. Wow. With a membership ranging from fatsos like us to world class atheletes, Competitive Fitness runs all of its 150+ members through the same daily workout with personal tweaks.

Today’s workout was as many sets of 20 Box Jumps, 20 Kettle Bell Swings, and 20 Push Ups that you can complete in 20 minutes. With the progress for each member tracked on a big white board at the front of the gym, your results are there for you to see each and every day. Jason says that you shouldn’t track your progress by how much weight you can lift, or how much weight you have lost, but by how much better you can do the things you want to do.

Jason also is very opinionated about what you should and should not be eating to get healthy and get your body right. Expect more fat than you think, and less of the fake low calorie fake sugar stuff.
Now for the really cool part. For all of the Fat Off participants, Jason is going to open the doors to his gym for the duration of the competition. Come in as often as you want get trained, throw some weights around, and learn how to not suck at life. If you have any questions check out their website or give Jason a call at 480-899-0130 or email him at jason@competitivefitnessaz.com or hit him up on Twittter @competitivefit.
See you at the gym!
